The show has already started filming and is expected to come to Netflix in 2023. Unfortunately, the Queen’s death may delay this release. Here’s what we know about The Crown Season 6 right now:
Will There Be a The Crown Season 6
Ever since it first came out, The Crown has become one of Netflix’s most popular original shows. The Crown is undeniably one of the most expensive shows to have been made. Each season reportedly has a production cost of over $100 million. But this has not gone unrewarded. The Crown has received a total of 423 nominations and won 129 awards. In 2021, it won 7 awards in the drama categories at the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards. The original plan was to make only five seasons of The Crown. In an interview with Hollywood Reporter, Morgan said: “At the outset I had imagined The Crown running for six seasons but now that we have begun work on the stories for season five it has become clear to me that this is the perfect time and place to stop. I’m grateful to Netflix and Sony for supporting me in this decision.” But in the middle of production of the fifth installment, its creator Peter Morgan revised his decision and announced that they will be making The Crown Season 6.
The Crown Season 6 Release Date
Production for The Crown Season 6 has just started so a release date has not yet been announced. But based on past seasons, The Crown Season 6 could get a release in November or December 2023. When it gets released, it could have 10 episodes like previous seasons. However, some changes are currently taking place. The Royal Family turned to Twitter to announce the death of Queen Elizabeth II. She was 96 years old.
Following this announcement, Morgan decided to pause filming “out of respect” to the Monarch’s death despite starting filming just a few days ago. In an email, Morgan wrote: “The Crown is a love letter to her and I’ve nothing to add for now, just silence and respect. I expect we will stop filming out of respect too.” There have always been plans in case the Queen would die during the run of the show. And one of those plans would be to stop production for “a respectable period of time.” In an interview with Deadline in 2016, director Stephen Daldry said: “None of us know when that time will come but it would be right and proper to show respect to the Queen. It would be a simple tribute and a mark of respect. She’s a global figure and it’s what we should do.” Filming is scheduled to take place over several months and is expected to end before May 2022. But now that it has been paused, this timeline could get changed.
The Crown Season 6 Story: What Is It About?
As we know, The Crown is based on historical research and imagination. Even though the storyline follows historical events, its individual scenes cannot be taken as fact. Since the storyline for The Crown Season 5 has not yet been revealed, we still don’t know what historical events will be included in the sixth season. But it’s possible that these will include things like 9/11, Prince Harry’s rehab, Princess Margaret’s death, Queen Elizabeth’s death, and the Iraq War. We’ll know for sure once The Crown Season 5 has been released.
The Crown Season 6 Cast: Who’s in It?
We’ll likely see the same set of actors in The Crown Season 6, except for Lady Diana (played by Elizabeth Debicki) who will end her role in the fifth season. This means that we’ll see the following actors reprise their roles:
Imelda Staunton (as Queen Elizabeth II)Jonathan Pryce (as Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh)Lesley Manville (as Princess Margaret)Dominic West (as Prince Charles)
