Jennifer Lawrence is someone who would know a lot about the franchise after playing Katniss Everdeen in four Hunger Games films. So it’s no surprise that The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes was mentioned to Lawrence when she attended the Toronto International Film Festival. Amazingly, Jennifer Lawrence was truly enthusiastic about The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes when asked if she had any advice for the cast of the new film (via People). “Oh, and the prequel? You guys are going to have the best time. Just have fun — don’t worry about anything,” Lawrence said with a smile.
It’s great advice considering that Lawrence seemed to truly enjoy being a part of the Hunger Games franchise. With that in mind, we’re hoping that Rachel Zegler, Tom Blyth, and the rest of the cast will have fun working on The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is based on Suzanne Collins’ 2020 novel and will be directed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay by Michael Arndt. It follows 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow who is assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird, the girl tribute from impoverished District 12. When Lucy sings during the reaping ceremony, Snow thinks he might be able to turn the odds in their favor.
The film will also star Viola Davis, Peter Dinklage, Jason Schwartzman, and Hunter Schafer. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is currently scheduled for release on November 17, 2023.
