It all started with Will Byers when he mysteriously disappeared in the pilot episode of the series. Throughout the show, he seemed to be going back and forth in the sidelines alongside the other cast but for Stranger Things Season 5, the story is set to go full circle as the showrunners revealed that he would be a central character in the final stretch of the narrative.
How Would Will Byers Be A Central Character In Stranger Things Season 5?
Played by Noah Schnapp, Will Byers has been going back and forth in the spotlight throughout the series. It all started when he mysteriously disappeared then got possessed in the second season then dealt with trauma in the third but after that, he was on the sidelines as other characters took the helm. In a recent talk with Collider, however, the Duffer Brothers revealed that Will would be back as the central character of Stranger Things Season 5. Matt Duffer shared, “Will’s going to be a big part and focus, is really all I can say of Season 5, in his journey. We’re starting to see his coming of age, really. Which has been challenging for a number of reasons, some of which are supernatural. But you’re starting to see him come into his own.” Ross Duffer added that the show will come full circle with Will, “It is setting us up coming full circle back to Season 1. I think you’ll see that with a couple of the character arcs, not just with Will. But also with Steve and Nancy, and her relationship with Jonathan where things are not fully resolved.” Ross further explained, “The characters have maybe made steps, like in the case of Will, but that journey isn’t over yet. All of that is going to play a huge role as we try to wrap this thing up next season."

Will’s story had been set aside when the show focused more on the other characters but all this time, it was the plan of the creators of the show after all – for the story to go full circle around him. Here’s how Will could be a central character in Stranger Things Season 5: remember in the finale of Season 4 Volume 2 when he was the first to feel the Upside Down seeping into reality through the gates Vecna opened in Hawkins and how he warned Mike that Vecna will not stop until the villain gets everything? Well, it is Will who first had a connection with the Upside Down. This binds him to Vecna through the Mind Flayer which consumed him in the first two seasons. The connection never ceased, in fact, it remains to be within Will and it was only put to bay when he left for California but now that he is back in Hawkins, it is where the connection is strongest. See, Will’s story may be sidelined for a reason: they are saving it for the last season of the series. The story going full circle and back to Will being in the middle of everything makes a lot of sense. What started with Will would end with Will. Whether he would survive until the end still remains a question. Stranger Things Season 4 Volumes 1 and 2 are now streaming on Netflix.
