However, it looks like most of the DC projects are still safe including the Black Canary standalone movie for HBO Max according to TVLine. The project, which was announced a year ago, is still confirmed to be in active development despite the planned restructuring of the DC franchise.
Jurnee Smollett is also still attached to play the titular character, reprising her role from Birds of Prey. Misha Green, who previously collaborated with the actress in Underground and Lovecraft Country, is writing the screenplay.
So far, it is unknown yet if the project has a timetable for its production date or whether it will remain as an HBO Max original movie which was the intended release during the inception of the project.
The report comes after Warner Bros. Discovery has been making some moves on some of their DC projects. Besides Batgirl, another casualty of the new regime’s change of strategic plan is the Strange Adventures anthology series, a DC project that was also in the works for HBO Max prior to its cancellation.
Fortunately, multiple reports have confirmed that several DC projects on HBO Max are still in the works including the Constantine reboot, the Green Lantern series, and the James Gunn-led DC projects.
It is great to hear an assurance that the project is still happening since there are fans who are looking forward to seeing it come to fruition. However, it is unclear whether the project will actually factor into the ten-year plan. For now, it looks like it is still in full steam as long as HBO Max will not pull the plug.
